Malnutrition
is predominant in interior rural areas. The Sangha has come forward
with a successful scheme to arrest this problem of malnutrition -
the NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTATION THERAPY Scheme.
A fixed time slot is kept apart exclusively
for Mother & Child Healthcare Programme under the Mobile Healthcare
Unit. Thus it becomes easy to identify the malnourished children
and to maintain their Road-to-Health Charts, who are being regularly
provided with ready-mix Nutrition Supplementation Therapy (NST)
packets at nominal charge.
 These
food packets, prepared as per the approved CINI formula, are taken
by these children everyday along with their regular meals. It has been observed that by taking the nutritional packets, malnourished children gained weight.
The
Centres of Gopalpur and Sikrakulingram were initially selected for
the NST Programme. Observing its usefulness and success, the Sangha
plans to extend this programme to its other centres too.
The
mothers are also advised on the diets of their children with the
locally, nutritional food and vegetables.
