The
villages become polluted due to poor environmental sanitation. This
aspect is neglected totally though the people to suffer as a result
are the villagers themselves. The Sangha has long been trying to
create an awareness amongst the vi1lagers covered by its Centres
about environmental sanitation.
One
of the centres under the Sangha has been declared as a "Sanitary
Village". Through the sincere efforts of the members and volunteers
of the Sangha almost all the people of Kalaburu village were motivated
to practise hygienic sanitary habits and generate a demand for sanitary
latrines. With the help of CAPART, an agency of the Government of
India, and also through community financing, about 80 per cent of
the families living in this village have been provided with sanitary
latrines.
 This
endeavour through continuous awareness programmes hasbeenspread
to the villagers
underother centres who, now, have started asking for low-cost latrines,
smokeless ovens etc., which they feel are essential for their
living.
But
the Sangha alone with its limited resources can hardly meet their
demand. While the Sangha concentrates more upon healthcare services,
it has to depend for these projects on some other agencies like
UNICEF, CAPART etc. who have been approached repeatedly.

Supply
of safe drinking water is one of the most important components of
the Comprehensive Primary Health Care for which the Sangha stands
committed.
In this sector, the Sangha has been instrumental in setting up deep
tubewells in the areas it is serving. The
villagers and the Sangha are working hard to provide safe drinking
water to every family by utilizing surface water. In this respect,
guidance was provided by the All India Institute of Hygiene and
Public Health (Department of Sanitary Engineering) along with its
innovative technology and expertise.

 This
programme falls under the purview of Mobile Health Care Unit. A
fixed time has been allotted for each Centre where school children,
particularly children of the ECE Schools run by the Sangha at its
different Centres are treated regularly. In addition,
special emphasis is give to make children aware of hygiene.
